Who is Krishna?

The ancient scriptures called Vedas confirms Krishna as the “Supreme Personality of Godhead”. When we say “Krishna,” we’re talking about God. Many people-especially outside of India-may not have heard of Krishna before. They may think Krishna is a “different God” from the one they worship. But there’s only one Supreme Person, and Krishna is one of His names. The name Krishna literally means “all-attractive.” So, not only is Krishna/God all- powerful and all-knowing, He’s also the most beautiful Person.

What Sri Krishna Says About Himself

If we are expected to understand God, then who better to explain His qualities and characteristics than He Himself? So in the Bhagavad-gita, Krishna provides the Self-revelatory truth about His position in His explanations to Arjuna. There are numerous verses in this regard, of which the following are but a few:

The sages, knowing Me to be the ultimate purpose of all sacrifices and austerities, the Supreme Lord of all planets and demigods, and the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities, attain peace from the pangs of material miseries.” (Bhagavad-gita 5.29)

“I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts. (Bhagavad-gita 10.8)

It is I who am the ritual, I the sacrifice, the offering to the ancestors, the healing herb, the transcendental chant… I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support, and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable om. I am the goal, the sustainer, the master, the witness, the abode, the refuge and the most dear friend. I am the creation and the annihilation, the basis of everything, the resting place and the eternal seed”. (Bhagavad-gita 9.16-18)
“As the Supreme Personality of Godhead, I know everything that has happened in the past, all that is happening in the present, and all things that are yet to come. I also know all living entities; but Me no one knows.” (Bhagavad-gita 7.24-26)

Music Classes

We are excited to announce that due to the positive response to our first set of music lessons courses with Radha Londonisvara das we will be holding a second set of courses in devotional music through the months of August and October

The aim of these courses is that each student will be able to lead a kirtan on either harmonium mrdanga or Karatalas, by the end of the course, either simply at home for their own bhajan and the pleasure of their own deities, or at any Vaisnava gathering, as they prefer.

Each course runs for 5 weeks. Classes will be held at ISKCON South London temple (42 enmore road, South Norwood)

every Saturday starting September 12th (weekend after Janmastami) finishing October 10th
